symbiotic disruptions

In this project, a single vertical yellow line interrupts the natural interaction between sedimentary rocks and Enteromorpha flexuosa algae in each frame. This digital intervention highlights human influence on delicate ecosystems. It was inspired by the persistent presence of dead pixels on my laptop screen which formed the exact same yellow line and the ethical torment which this line caused in me while I was deciding whether to replace this old laptop with a new one. By disrupting the harmony of the original images, this line symbolizes humanity’s impact on the natural world and it also symbolizes the ethical line which we all draw within ourselves when deciding whether to buy a new piece of technical consumer goods while being aware that e-waste (electronic waste) is one of the fastest growing types of waste.
